About The Art<\/h3>\n

This exhibition includes over forty large-scale and richly detailed paintings, by accomplished portraitist and figure painter, William McGregor Paxton (1869 \u2013 1941). The exhibition also incorporates a selection of works by the artist\u2019s wife and muse, Elizabeth Okie Paxton (1877 \u2013 1971). \u00a0William Paxton, a member of the Boston School of Painters, is known for his meticulously detailed interiors.\u00a0William McGregor Paxon and Elizabeth Okie Paxton: An Artistic Partnership<\/em>\u00a0focuses on William\u2019s repeated explorations of late nineteenth and early twentieth century femininity using a few preferred models, including his wife.\u00a0 The selection of works by Elizabeth Okie Paxton, best remembered as a painter of still lifes and interiors, reveal how she pursued her own work while often serving as inspiration for her husband\u2019s artistic output. The exhibition is the first examination of William Paxton\u2019s work in forty years, and the first individual artistic study of Elizabeth Okie Paxton\u2019s work. \u00a0The exhibition, drawn from both public and private collections, mixes scenes of domesticity and leisure by both artists over the span of some 40 years.<\/p>\n
