Holger Keifel, who was born in Germany and now lives in New York City, has become one of America\u2019s finest fine arts photographers. Best known for his powerful and stirring images of the First Responders on 9-11, his subjects now include broad and fascinating aspects of life in America. The Butler exhibition draws from varied themes that have interested Keifel in recent years. The exhibit is a part of the 100th anniversary celebration of the Butler and is Holger Keifel\u2019s third Butler exhibit.<\/p>\n
Biography<\/p>\n
Holger Keifel\u2019s photographs have been featured in\u00a0The New York Times Magazine<\/em>, Der Spiegel<\/em>,\u00a0Icon magazine (Italy)<\/em>,\u00a0Observer Sport Monthly<\/em>,\u00a0Black + White Magazine<\/em>, Esquire<\/em>,\u00a0Esquire Spain-Cover (Mike Tyson), American Photography<\/em>, on Book and CD covers as well as in numerous book projects, and in museum and gallery shows.<\/p>\n His work is included in several museum collections: The National Portrait Gallery in Washington DC<\/em>.,\u00a0The Butler Institute of American Art, <\/em>The Charles Schulz Museum, The Brooklyn Museum, The Museum of the City of New <\/em>York, and the National September 11 Memorial & Museum.<\/em><\/p>\n His boxing portraits were first exhibited in 2004 as a solo show entitled \u2018A Portrait of Boxing\u2019 at The Butler Museum of Contemporary Art\u00a0<\/em>in Ohio. They were then shown in a two-person exhibit in 2007 at \u2018Dean Project\u2019 in Long Island City and in a solo show with Lise Curry Fine Art in 2009, at \u2018The Prince George Gallery \u2018 in Manhattan.<\/p>\n Two of his \u2018Boxer\u2019 prints were on display from May 2015 to June 2016 at theSmithsonian National Portrait Gallery in Washington DC, which where acquired by the museum in 2014. In September 2015, he was invited to give a lecture about this work in the \u2018Meet the Artist\u2019 series at the National Portrait Gallery.<\/p>\n In 2010 this collection of portraits of more than 250 people in the world of boxing were published in a 200 page book \u2013\u00a0BOX\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 \u2018The Face of Boxing\u2019 by PQ Blackwell \/ Chronicle Books.<\/p>\n At his first exhibit, \u2018Dying Well \u2013 False Death\u2019, in Germany 2017, some of his \u2018Donor\u2013Organs\u2019 images as well as his portrait of\u00a0 \u2018Albert Einstein\u2019 where shown. He was also invited to hold an \u2018Artist-talk\u2019.<\/p>\n The Butler Institute of American Art will celebrate it\u2019s 100th<\/sup>\u00a0Anniversary in 2019, from March 24 \u2013 May 5, Holger Keifel\u2019s Mid-Career show \u2013 \u2019Only in America\u2019\u00a0 will be exhibit a selection of his work, done through the 25 years since he came to America.<\/p>\n He teaches photography at ICP \u2013 International Center of Photography, Pratt Institute and FIT \u2013 Fashion Institute of Technology in New York.<\/p>\n Born in Germany, Keifel moved to New York City in 1993, where he lives
