About The Art<\/h2>\n

Schreiber produces work in a wide variety of mediums, including drawing, performance, sculpture, video, and light, mostly known for his work with Holography and Laser Light Sculptures. Recurring subjects within Schreiber’s work center on novelty, the occult, and spectacle by using tools of physics, technology, and perception.<\/p>\n

Matthew Schreiber\u2019s solo exhibition at The Butler Institute of American Art consists of three types of light-based artwork, including laser light sculpture and holography. In Schreiber\u2019s research for the exhibition, he came across online interviews with Director Lou Zona focusing on the Butler\u2019s Bermant gallery of Art and Technology. This unusual focus by the Institute was of particular interest to the artist as he began the process for the exhibition. Schreiber\u2019s approach to Art and Technology includes its scientific process and reflection on popular culture.<\/p>\n

Schreiber grew up in Cleveland. His work has been the subject of solo exhibitions including Matthew Schreiber, Orders of Light, <\/em>Boca Raton Museum of Art; \u00a0Light, Color and Geometry<\/em>, Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science; \u00a0Crossbow<\/em> at the Johnson Museum of Art, Cornell University; Side Show<\/em> at Johannes Vogt Gallery, NYC; Guilloche<\/em> at Fireplace Project in East Hampton, NY; \u00a0Swiss Hall<\/em> Basel, Switzerland; \u00a0Platonic Solids<\/em> at the NSU Art Museum Ft. Lauderdale, and Ontario<\/em>, curated by Ambra Medda in the Miami Design District.<\/p>\n

\u201cMaking a hologram is technically difficult, it\u2019s a kind of dark art. It\u2019s a very mysterious and strange process\u2026 The idea of mediumship, the idea of channeling through this process so that in a way, I\u2019m becoming possessed.\u201d –<\/em>Matthew Schreiber<\/em><\/p>\n
