About The Art<\/h2>\n

Kim Novak is returning to the Butler with an exhibition of her most recent paintings. A number of these were painted during the isolation of Covid, and a few are more recent. Her treasure hunt of emotions relates to this time period. <\/span><\/p>\n

Kim Novak has painted most of her life. She considers what she does as \u201cstorytelling art.\u201d As a young girl she won two scholarships from the Chicago Art Institute. Her art comes from her heart and soul, revealing her truth and exposing her deepest feelings. The paintings are a manifestation of her feelings. Her themes are universal. Ms. Novak\u2019s passion for her work can be seen within the work. Kim Novak opens herself up to the viewer with her paintings and poems. Her poems give the clues.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBefore I leave this world, I would like you to see into my art, and into my soul\u2026from my perspective. Since childhood I have looked at life through the magnifying lens of a very vivid imagination. I enjoy dissected insights, painting visions, and often turning words into verse, my rhyming words into a kind of \u2018treasure hunt.\u2019 My greatest desire has always been to touch your emotions like you have touched mine\u2026 with all the colors of a rainbow.<\/em><\/p>\n

Matters have always mattered to my bipolar self. They were given free rein to fly me high above the clouds on horseback-yet within a nanosecond could drop me to the knees of despair. I have watched songbirds turn into vultures circling my body and feasting on my grief. All the while I am trying to express the haunting images that simply want to find the light of day!\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n

So, this is what I want to share with you\u2026my highs and lows from so many, many years of experiencing the mystery of life at its core.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

June 2nd: At 3pm in the Zona Auditorium there will be a screening of a half-hour documentary “The Golden Age Rebel” that Kim made with the French company Tangerine.<\/strong><\/p>\n

As Director, Dr. Louis Zona said, \u201cThe art of Kim Novak, so sensitively created, carries powerful lessons.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n
