I have had this same paint jar since 1997 and I love all the layers of paint on it. This jar has seen my darkest paintings and my most upbeat ones. I think it might be one of my favorite things in my studio (it also photographs rather well).

You can see 14 pieces of my work at the Schlafly Branch Library (225 N. Euclid in the Central West End). There are paintings and photographs. They will be there until July 31st.
Photography site is up and running! Will have more photos up very soon.

Hope to have the actual web site up very soon.
Sorry I have not been on here in a while. I was finishing the backdrop for the play and got a new job. Things are finally starting to calm down but they won’t stay calm for long because I got into grad school and that starts up in July. So, I will try to keep getting new stuff up but I apologise if it starts to become stagnant.
I did get the pictures of Sarah up finally…Â Sarah at School
And the backdrop for the play is done but I’m not all that pleased with it. Someone vandalized it when I was half way done forcing me to redo parts and I’m sorry to say that my enthusiasm for the project dropped after that. I will get a picture of that up here soon.
Things I am looking forward to…
I am shooting some couples photos for a friend next week then a wedding the first weekend in June. I am also submitting some of the pictures of Sarah to a show called “RED” at the Soulard Art Market so I will let you know how that goes (won’t find out until mid June I think though).
Today I am going to a bead shop to take a class with a friend. I’m always excited to learn new creative things. Depending on how it goes, I may post pictures of what I learn.Â
🙂
When you take a flower in your hand and really look at it, it’s your world for the moment. I want to give that world to someone else. Most people in the city rush around so, they have no time to look at a flower. I want them to see it whether they want to or not.
~Georgia O’Keeffe
Â
O’Keeffe is one of my all time favorites. You can say what you want to about her flower paintings but I think they are beautiful (and I don’t see anything dirty in them). This quote from her always hits home for me because that is really what I try to do with a lot of my art. There are so many awesome things on this planet that people miss and that is sad to me.  So I want to highlight them and try to get people to take time to notice the little things.Â
Â
EXAMPLE: On my way home from work today I saw the wind blowing this evergreen tree and the way branches moved, the dark green color of them against the gray sky was so pretty in its simplicity.Â
I hope I never lose my child like sense of wonder.Â
I would just like to say that putting a portfolio together is a bit stressful for me. I don’t want to take too many or too few photos and I want to have some variation but not look like I don’t have any direction. Then there is the wondering if taking one photo and not a different one I was thinking about has cost me the gig.
Sometimes I think I am not the ideal person to pick out my best work. All I can do is try - I hate feeling like I am being judged though. Unfortunately to get any kind of “job” in the art world, you have to lay your work out there for someone else to criticize.
I have to give myself credit though because I never used to put myself out there because I never wanted to hear anything negative. Now, I am at least able to take some constructive criticism (as long as it’s not too harsh) so I suppose I am growing as an artist. I am curious to see what is in store for me (and my art “careerâ€) over the next few years.
I like to be behind the camera because I hate pictures of myself.  Some of my least favorite projects in school were when we had to do self portraits. I have been thinking that I need to change that and maybe do a “Self Portrait” album on here. But, I don’t want to be one of those artists who posts hundreds of pictures of themself.  If I end up starting the album and keeping up with it, I will try to keep it down to just a few photos.
Let’s kick this off…

We found a new company to host my site and things are running much better. I apologize to anyone who visited the site when it was acting up (running slow, putting images in the wrong albums). It seems to be acting the way it should now (hooray). Because it is acting normal, I have added lots of new stuff! New photos under Botanical Garden, Butterflies, Weddings and an entire new album of my Iowa Farm Photos. I had these on my old site but never got them transferred onto the updated one because of technical difficulties.  There are also a few more paintings under “Random Paintings”, nothing new just ones I never got around to putting up.
So, take a look around, enjoy and leave some feedback if you get time. Thanks!

Attempting to redo my website. Let’s see how this goes…
