One of my cousins has commissioned me to do a set of paintings for him. His only request was that they have purple & black in them. Yeah, force me to do paintings with purple & black. =o)
I was just going to do standard gallery wrapped canvases but I bought this wood panel today and I’m really rather liking it. This is not finished yet. It is probably going to get some designs laid over it. Not that I don’t like it right now but I have lots of paintings that I start like this and there is supposed to be much more to them but I get too scared that I will screw them up, so I just stop. I shall not stop on this one! There will be more to come.
Test drawing of the leaf on a small piece of backer board that I painted the same color as the 4 canvases. This is just colored pencil, going to try watercolor pencils next. This looks a bit flat to me. I need to bump up the colors of the leaf, need to see the veins more. Don’t get me wrong, I like the look of this, I just think it is not quit there yet.

This amazing leaf caught my eye as I was taking my walk just now. I think with a tad more yellow, this leaf was meant for these canvases. I need to do a few sketches of it before I commit it to the canvases though.
This is the 4th thing that I’ve painted on this set of canvases. I love the idea of them I just can’t seem to commit to a design for them. I’m really liking this so far, lets hope I don’t screw it up. It will probably end up with leaves or flowers, not totally sure yet. I’m going to play with a smaller version of it and see what seems to work on it. Post more on this project later.
I was going to draw a butterfly on this painting, but I’m thinking of changing it to a flower. Of course, I also like it the way it is… Maybe I’ll leave it alone for a bit.
